Recycle Rally is a competition for any K-12
school in Montgomery County. From
September 1st, 2008 to May 3rd, 2009,
students, parents, staff and other supporters
of your school may bring recyclable
materials to Rumpke Recycling at
1300 E. Monument in Dayton.
(M-F: 8-5pm; Sat: 8-noon)
Rumpke and Montgomery County Solid
Waste District will track the total amount of
materials brought on behalf of each school.
How do we store collected recyclables?
The best way to have a successful Recycle Rally is to not plan on storing the recyclable items.
Try these tips instead:
- Rotate through a list of delivery parents or community volunteers that will take in the recyclables every day or every other day.
- Have a neighborhood collection day. Get volunteers/students to pick-up from neighbors on a weekly basis then transport directly to the Rumpke Recycling Center.
How do we get money?
Your school will earn money in two ways:
- At the end of the competition, Rumpke will present your school with a check for the total value of all the recyclables turned in during the contest period. A list of current values for recyclables can be obtained from Rumpke.
- Schools who turn in the most recyclables for their category win additional cash prizes*.
1st place receives $2,000
2nd place receives $1,000
3rd place receives $500
*A minimum of 1,000 pounds must be met in order to qualify for prize money in a division.
What can we bring?
Rumpke will accept:
- Paper products (junk mail, office paper, newspaper, cardboard)
- Aluminum and tin cans
- Scrap metals (Steel, Brass, Copper, Aluminum - including clean foil)
- Plastics #1& #2
- Glass bottles
What can’t we bring?
Rumpke cannot accept:
- Magazines
- Uncirculated newspapers
- Pizza boxes (could be contaminated)
- Single items weighing more than 25 lbs.
Rumpke will now accept text books with the
binding completely removed. The binding
should be cut off so that all glue is removed.
What if we have another recycling program?
If your school has another recycling program and hauler, the recyclables collected by your school WILL count towards your final tally for the contest (if the hauler is willing to give us weights). Be sure to note that you have a secondary hauler on the registration form so that we know to contact you for more information.
What if I have other questions or need help getting started?
If you need more information, please feel free to contact Jennifer Mattingly by e-mail, mattinglyj@mcohio.org, or phone (937) 496-6798.
How do we participate?
Register your school. Complete the online registration form or print a copy of the PDF Registration Form and mail or fax it in. A detailed competition kit will then be sent to your school. Take your recyclables to Rumpke.
They will track the weight of the materials turned in. Be sure to let them know it is for your school's recycle rally!
Come to the Recycle Rally Awards! (tentative May 30, 2009)
