| Upgrading? Reuse, Recycle Your Analog TV
By law, full-power television stations nationwide must begin broadcasting exclusively in a digital format on February 17, 2009. With this new era approaching, many residents are asking themselves a question: Do we buy a converter box for the old analog television or a new TV with the built in digital tuner? For more information on the digital TV transition, please visit www.dtv.gov
If the television is damaged or otherwise unable to be reused, Montgomery County also offers free recycling programs for residents. Televisions and other electronic devices may be dropped off free of charge for recycling at either of the District’s two waste transfer stations during hours of operation. For more information on all of Montgomery County’s reuse and recycling programs please visit . If you do decide to purchase a new television, the Montgomery County Solid Waste District would like to remind residents not to throw away the old TVs in their trash. Just because the rabbit ears aren't reining in a signal from the outside world doesn't mean the television is useless. Old TVs in good working condition can be donated to the Montgomery County Material Reuse Facility (MCMRF) for reuse by local non-profit organizations. Please call 496-6639 for more information including hours of operation.
